This dish will make you feel ten years old again. Simple and made from everyday staple ingredients, this classic, simple kid-pleaser from the 1954 Cooking Magic collection, Dishes Children Love, will be a hit at almost any dinner table.
You’ll need:
4 strips bacon, cut into small pieces
3 Tbsp. fat
1 pound frankfurters, cut up into ½ – ¾ inch pieces
⅓ cup onion, finely chopped
1 picnic size can condensed tomato soup (that’s a 10¾ oz. can)
½ cup boiling water
1 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
1 tsp. salt
⅛ tsp. pepper
2 cups uncooked macaroni
Brown bacon in skillet; set aside. Add 3 Tbsp. fat to the skillet; sauté onions and frankfurters until onions are transparent. Combine the cooked onions and frankfurters, bacon, and the remaining ingredients into a large saucepan or Dutch oven; cover and simmer for 30 minutes.
While sauce is simmering, cook macaroni according to package directions; drain. When sauce has simmered for 30 minutes, add cooked macaroni to the sauce; mix well. Simmer an additional 5 minutes.
Enjoy!
