Beef stroganoff goes by many recipes, but this one delivers a very satisfying meal while sticking to the basics.
You’ll need:
2 lb. lean sirloin beef, cut into cubes
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 No. ¼ can mushrooms, drained and finely chopped (that’s a 3 or 4 oz. can)
5 Tbsp. butter
1 Picnic size can condensed mushroom soup (that’s a 10¾ oz. can)
¼ cup water
½ tsp. pepper
½ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. garlic powder
¼ tsp. paprika
½ cup heavy cream1
¼ tsp. citric acid or 2 tsp. lemon juice1
Cooked rice
Sauté onions and mushrooms in butter; add mushroom soup, water, pepper, salt, garlic powder and paprika. Simmer until meat is tender, about 50 minutes. Stir in heavy cream and citric acid / lemon juice; simmer 5 more minutes. Serve with rice.
Enjoy! (But please don’t slurp your soup.)
1 You can substitute ½ cup sour cream for the heavy cream and citric acid.
