Mazettie

Now this is a feast that I’ll wager is a forgotten favorite! Adapted from the Country Cookbook, First United Methodist Church, Norwood, NC, either mild sausage or hot sausage may be used for this comfort delight that will fill the house with sentimental aromas as well as fill the tummy with sustenance.

You’ll need:

1 lb. ground beef
½ lb. sausage
1 medium green pepper
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 10¾ oz. can tomato soup
1 10¾ oz. can cream of mushroom soup
½ cup water
10 oz. medium egg noodles
1 Tbsp. bacon grease
grated Cheddar cheese (about 4 oz.)
salt and pepper to taste

Saute meat, onions and green peppers in bacon grease. Salt and pepper. Precook noodles and drain. Combine all ingredients and mix well. Sprinkle top with the grated cheddar.

Bake in a covered casserole dish in a moderate oven (that’s 350°F) for 45 minutes. Uncover and bake for another 10 minutes.

Enjoy! (But be sure that your napkin is folded properly!)
